Female youths in the state have been advised to scale-up preference for skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development and capacity building if they are to become better leaders in the future.

Wife of Akwa Ibom State governor, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, gave the admonition Thursday, March 11, 2021, while inaugurating a 2-member Chapter Executive Committee for Akwa Ibom State Female Youths in each of the 31 local government areas of the state at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo.

She told the newly inaugurated chapter EXCO to brace up for leadership positions as their new found offices were only a stepping stone to greater heights.

The First Lady informed the female youths that the leadership of the group has appraised and found them competent enough to be saddled with the responsibilities, saying they must reciprocate by submitting and being loyal.

Dr. Emmanuel echoed that it was necessary for the new generation of women leaders in Akwa Ibom learn to celebrate each other’s success rather than engage in pull-her-down syndrome which according to her does not promote unity.

She noted that in line with the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration, she decided to chart a new course for Akwa Ibom women by identifying and honouring special women who are daring the odds and making it in their chosen endeavours.

Also present at the event were the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Comrade Aniefiok Iwaudofia who all addressed the gathering.

The State President of the group, Comrade Esther Nta, gave the vote of thanks, thanking the governor’s wife for believing in their ability to perform, while promising not to dissappoint nor take the confidence reposed in them for granted.
